Central Heating Grants

If you’ve never utilised central heating grants through the Government’s ECO Scheme for installation of your central heating system, then you really should give this knowledge page a read. ECO grants for central heating can potentially save you hundreds of pounds.
In the UK, many residential properties still don’t have a proper central heating system installed. Government Energy Grants has been working with homeowners for quite some time now, helping them to claim ECO grants for first-time central heating system installation.
Why you need to take advantage of an ECO grant for central heating...
As the global economy continues to struggle against the change of events which have unfolded recently, fuel costs continue to rise, and it’s now become even more important for homeowners and businesses to do whatever possible to improve their homes’ energy efficiency – and subsequently, lower energy bills as much as possible. Factually speaking, many UK households are living in fuel poverty as most of the homes here are not properly connected to the main gas supply line.

This means relying more on traditional fuels like coal or oil, or an alternative source such as electricity or LPG – which is still very costly. Furthermore, the fact that properties get very cold and draughty, particularly at night, does not help much.

This is why the Government’s ECO grant schemes needs to be taken advantage of now rather than later – it can give homeowners the peace of mind and quality heating that they’ve been wanting all along, while significantly reducing their energy bills.

How does an ECO grant for central heating work?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme is a Government programme focused on improving energy efficiency, placing an obligation on all energy companies to provide full funding for the installation and insulation of heating systems. The end goal is to combat the fuel poverty head on and cut down greenhouse emissions as much as possible.
So, who is eligible for the funding?
ECO grants for central heating are aimed at homes that do not have a central heating system installed at the moment. Therefore, if you’re currently using methods like wood/coal fires, or electric and/or storage heaters, you can take advantage of the ECO funding scheme. With that in mind, the funding does not apply to homes that are heated through the main supply line or through Oil Central Heating.
Can I go ahead and apply then?
If you’re a property owner or tenant who is living in a home which only has solid fuel fires or electric heating, and you are in receipt of the tax credits/benefits below, then you are also fully eligible:

• Income Support
• Pension Credit
• Universal Credit
• Working Tax Credit
• Child Tax Credit
• Armed Forces Independence Payment
• Disability Living Allowance
• Attendance Allowance
• Carer’s Allowance
• Severe Disablement Allowance
• Personal Independence Payment
• War Pensions Mobility Supplement
• Housing Benefit

In addition, if you are receiving Child Benefit, then you can take advantage of an ECO scheme for central heating, as long as you meet additional income requirements. The values below indicate the maximum income allowed in order to qualify you:

• If you have one child, you can claim up to £18,500 as a single claimant and up to £25,500 as a couple.
• If you have two children, you can claim up to £23,000 as a single claimant and up to £30,000 as a couple
• If you have three children, you can claim up to £27,500 as a single claimant and up to £34,500 as a couple
• If you have four children or more, you can claim up to £32,000 as a single claimant and up to £39,000 as a couple

What if I’m not receiving benefits? Am I still eligible?
Yes – even if you are not receiving any tax credits or benefits, you can take advantage of the scheme as long as you are at risk of fuel poverty, don’t have any central heating system in your home, or both.
Furthermore, the ECO grant scheme for central heating covers the cost of energy efficient measures – i.e. wall insulation, loft insulation and heating systems.
